The Story:
I created these faces from hand-painted paper, carefully cutting and layering each individual piece before gluing them together to form a unique, colorful portrait. Every face is assembled by hand, allowing each one to develop its own personality, expression, and story.
I began creating these portraits during a difficult season of life. I returned to art as a form of meditation—a quiet ritual that kept my hands busy while my heart made sense of what words could not. Each cut, brushstroke, and layer became part of the healing process, allowing me to move through emotion one piece at a time.
It wasn't until I stepped back and looked at the collection as a whole that I realized I had created a community of powerful, ancestral portraits. Each face carries its own emotions, lived experiences, and quiet resilience. Together, they represent the strength that exists within us and the connections we share across generations.
These portraits are a reminder that healing doesn't happen all at once. We continue moving forward, piece by piece. Just as every cut of paper becomes an essential part of the whole, every challenge, loss, and moment of growth shapes us into something beautiful. Each cut creates a small masterpiece.
